Mass for St Peter & St Paul - Monday 29th June

"Both apostles share the same feast day, for these two were one; and even though they suffered on different days, they were as one. Peter went first, and Paul followed. And so we celebrate this day made holy for us by the apostles' blood. Let us embrace what they believed, their life, their labors, their sufferings, their preaching, and their confession of faith."

Hathersage 2015, group 2

5JB returned from Hathersage last Friday after an action packed week of walking, orienteering, stream study, conservation and learning about the Reformation. The weather improved as the week progressed but the children did experience some true Derbyshire weather too, four seasons in one day! The behaviour of the children was excellent and they were complemented on their good manners, particularly at the Pool Café where one member of staff declared them to be the best school group she had ever served. The children, I’m sure, will have many great memories of the week, Mr Barfield in particular will never forget his trip to Stanage on Tuesday! I would like to thank Mrs Chadwick who led the trip and also her team of hard working helpers- Mr Barfield, Mrs Mc Culloch, Miss Murphy, Miss Dawes, Mrs Brown and Mr Whittle who joined the group for one day. The whole team worked tirelessly throughout the week, not to mention the hours of preparation needed before hand to make the trip run smoothly and safely. Thank you and well done to the children.

Year 3 First Holy Communion Mass - Monday 18th May

On Saturday, 16th May, 49 children from The Good Shepherd School, received Holy Communion for the first time at The Good Shepherd Church. It was a wonderful celebration for everyone and it was lovely to see the church so full. On behalf of us all, I would like to thank Mrs McElroy and Mrs Boneham Hill for their dedication and time spent in preparing the children for their special day and also for organising the day itself and ensuring that it all went smoothly. I would also like to thank Miss Tomycz and Mrs Dougal who again have worked hard behind the scenes, organising and preparing the Communion Breakfast for the children and decorating the church hall so beautifully. Many staff were also there on the day, serving the children and the adults with food, teas and coffees. Our thanks go to Mr Barfield, Mrs Allwood, Mrs Mc Culloch, Mrs Bertolaso and Mrs Chadwick. Many thanks also to Mrs Newham, the school choir, parents for your support and of course to our Parish Priest, Canon Philip. A big thank you to you all!

Congratulations Year 3, we are very proud of you all!

Hathersage 2015, group 1 - 26th April to 1st May

Group 1, 5AM, returned safely after spending 6 nights at Saint Michael’s Field Study Centre in Hathersage where they enjoyed an active and busy week. The children behaved very well and were a credit to their parents and to the School. Activities included a village and graveyard quiz, a walk to Padley and to Stanage Edge, den building in the forest, dry stone wall building, rounders at the local school and a final meal at the Poolside Café. These many outdoor learning experiences, coupled with the development of independence, organisation and team work, helped to make the week an invaluable all round learning opportunity for our children. Well done to Mrs Mansfield’s Class.

I hope that what you have learned and experienced will stand you in good stead for the future and that the residential experience will be part of the many positive memories that you will have of your school days.

Thank you to Mrs Mansfield, Mrs Bertolaso, Miss Dawes and Mr Whittle who worked tirelessly throughout the week and who gave up their own time with their families in order to make this trip possible. Their dedication and commitment was admirable and we are all grateful to them.

Whole school Mass - Monday 2nd February

We came together as a school to celebrate the Presentation of Our Lord Jesus Christ in the Temple. Mary and Joseph take Jesus to the temple, where Simeon blesses the baby and rejoices that the Lord let him live to see this day. Anna, a prophetess, whom "never left the temple but worshipped night and day, fasting and praying” had incredible faith and, like Simeon, she too was enlightened by the Holy Spirit. A special thanks goes to Foundation for bringing that story to life with your role play of the Presentation of Our Lord Jesus Christ in the Temple.
